Why the name: John Paul II Justice and Peace Centre

"Faith Doing Justice" — Our motto, our mission.

The choice of naming the John Paul II Justice and Peace Centre after Pope John Paul II is deeply rooted in his remarkable legacy of promoting social justice, peace, and reconciliation worldwide. Pope John Paul II stood as a global symbol of hope and unity, addressing injustices and advocating for the dignity and rights of all people. His unwavering commitment to justice resonated strongly with the founders' vision and mission. At the time the Centre was being conceptualized in 2006, the world was reflecting on Pope John Paul II's profound impact following his passing.

His life and papacy inspired many to respond creatively to the pressing issues of their times, aligning seamlessly with the Centre's motto, "Faith Doing Justice." The Centre's work focuses on addressing the injustices and inequalities that plague Ugandan society — such as human rights abuses, poverty, and post-war trauma — particularly in Northern Uganda. The ethos of Pope John Paul II, who championed the rights of the marginalised and called for active compassion and advocacy, provides a moral and spiritual framework for these efforts. Naming the Centre after him serves as both a tribute to his enduring influence and a commitment to continuing his mission of fostering justice and peace in Uganda and beyond.
