On 12th September 2025, Uganda Episcopal Conference, together with the John Paul II Justice and Peace Centre (JPIIJPC), Mwagale Foundation, St. Bakhita Anti-Trafficking Network, Association of Religious in Uganda (ARU), and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, held its annual National Prayer Day on Trafficking in Persons at Sharing Youth Centre, Nsambya. The prayer day, under the theme “Human Trafficking Is Organized Crime – Let’s End the Exploitation” and the motto “Let’s end human trafficking—together,” aimed to raise awareness about human trafficking in Uganda, show solidarity with survivors, promote collective responsibility, and strengthen moral and spiritual resolve to combat the vice.
The event was presided over by His Grace Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere and attracted government officials, civil society representatives, faith leaders from Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox, Evangelical, Muslim, and Bahá’í communities, as well as students from secondary schools and tertiary institutions, highlighting the importance of youth engagement. Activities included interfaith prayers, solidarity messages, and awareness-raising reflections on trafficking. Key messages emphasized the need for collective action to dismantle trafficking networks, community vigilance, and moral awakening. The Archbishop urged youth to be cautious of fraudulent job offers abroad, while officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs reaffirmed government commitment to prevention, investigation, prosecution, and strengthened border monitoring.
The event successfully renewed solidarity with survivors, heightened national awareness, and demonstrated interfaith and institutional unity, reinforcing that combating human trafficking.
