JPIIJPC Participates in the Joint Stakeholder’s Submission for Uganda’s Fourth Universal Periodic Review

Joint Stakeholder’s Submission for Uganda’s Fourth Universal Periodic Review

In the process of Uganda’s fourth periodic review by the Committee on the Rights of the Child, several organizations, including JPIIJPC, Bright Doves of Saint Francis, Caritas Kampala, and Joy for Children Uganda, actively participated in submitting a joint report. This submission, led by Franciscans International, aimed to highlight critical children’s rights issues in Uganda, drawing on firsthand information gathered from local communities and field-based experiences. The submission focused on issues such as violence against children, child marriages, and human trafficking, ensuring that marginalized children’s voices were included. The report addresses four key areas: (i) General implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, (ii) Access to education and healthcare for children, especially those with disabilities, (iii) Issues of violence such as child marriage, teenage pregnancies, and female genital mutilation and (iv) Protection of children from human trafficking. The submission was based on continuous monitoring, case studies, and interviews with affected individuals. A workshop in Kampala in September 2024 helped consolidate these findings. JPIIJPC’s active participation ensured that the most pressing challenges facing children in Uganda, particularly human trafficking, were highlighted in the report.

The submission serves as an important advocacy tool, urging the Ugandan government to improve the implementation of children’s rights. Through its involvement, JPIIJPC demonstrated its continued commitment to addressing social injustices affecting children, particularly in marginalized and vulnerable communities.
